The One Million Pesos Temptation

Status

A few months ago I have received a very attractive job-offer from one of Europes leading and most profitable hotel chains. The temptation was very high… My profile fits perfectly to the job profile… and the people who are working in the organization all seem to enjoy the personal growth and professional challenge. The project would involve designing the international expansion plan of a new brand and involve quiete a large amount of travelling across Europe, Latin America and North America.

The offer came in a very interesting phase of my life as I had to decide if I will stay true to my believes, dreams and passion, or take the money and accept postponing my goals for the sake of others…

To make a long story short… I rejected the One Million Pesos offer and made an even more drastic decision that will affect the next 6 months of my life… Will be happy to share more of these experiences over the next few weeks as I am pushing my personal passion-business project to a new dimension…

ANNIVERSARY No1

Status

I can’t believe that almost one year ago the idea to the PassionBusiness Project was born… It is exciting to think about the emotional flash of finally figuring out what you want to do in life and how you want to contribute to society’s wellbeing.

Today, I asked myself “So how far have I advanced over the past 12 months?” The truth is… not much. A few inspiring conversations with Paolo Stephanoni during the initial phase of his Soundshine Project, a few talks to entrepreneur students at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Guadalajara, a key-note at the 2010 Modo Design Conference, a PassionBusiness Design Workshop at Modo 2010, and a keynote speach at the 2010 Emprende tus Ideas Conference in Veracruz, and that’s about it. I think that all the speaking engagements reached the right people, at the right time… I was able to plant some new seeds and inspire and motivate people to not reject their dreams…

Since around 8 month I am also working actively on Making Ideas Happen at Phanaint México. Under the codename COPERNICUS Project, I am working on the design and implementation of the business model which will enable the company to transform itself, their customers and our society. The doing part, has been far more challenging than I imagined before. Making something intangible tangible is an Art that I am delighted to experience and I am looking forward that we are delivering tangible results…

I am looking forward to be DOING more and achieving to reduce the resistance that one encounters on his way on making his dreams come true…

COPERNICUS 2.0

Also in 2011 I have continued to work on the “copernicus project” at Phanaint Mexico. The challenge gets more and more exciting as we reach out to more customers, gather more experiences, and comprehend better the underserved needs of our potential customers.

I am amazed how easy it is to design a logic and meaningful strategy on the one hand, and make the strategy come true, on the other hand… The biggest challenge is to communicate effectively with employees and customers and make sure that everybody is on the same page… Also, practice takes “too freekin long..” But we have patience and learn with each project to be more effective and prevent trouble…

COPERNICUS SYNDROME

Status

Last months were quite busy… Since July 2010 I am working with a Colombian Scientist and Entrepreneur on the realization of his life research project that has the potential to change the ecological footprint of the global industrial laundry sector and related industries…

Since 1982 the company is dedicated to the research and development of biotech solutions that will reduce radically the consumption of water, electricity, gas and diesel and minimize the discharge of tons of toxic detergents…

After having gained a foothold in some of awarded The Leading Hotels of the World and Five Star Diamond hotels, the company is now on its way to change best practices in a range of industries. The challenge is now to design the right business model and diffusion strategy that will enable the company to leverage its ressources to challenge the status quo in more and more industries…

So far the experience feels similar to Copernicus trying to convince the people that the world is not flat… In our case, its that we have to convince the market place that there is more caustic soda… and that investing a bit more in a bio-degradable electrostatic solution will help the organizations minimize their energy consumption and overall operating expenses…

Over the next few weeks I will try to share some of the cultural barriers and paradigms we are breaking both, within the organization and in the market place…

MODO 2010

Status

On June 4th and June 5th 2010 the organizers of MODO Design Workshops invited me to present my PasisonBusiness project and hold a workshop on Business Model Design for creative industries. Below, you can click through the slides that I have presented on both events. I hope you like the material and share your feedback with me…

The experience was very cool… I have learned a lot from all the creative and visionary “artists” and enjoyed sharing the “art of business design” with them. I confirmed my assumption, that the participants will find the presented material useful and inspiring. Unfortunately, I perceived that the ideal length for the workshop should be at least 2 better 3 days and some follow up sessions with each “apasionado” individually.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to introduce some of the personalities (and their passion and products & services) on this blog… Just give me time to recover the information…

The Passion Business Project

Status

Over the past few months we have interacted with two kinds of people. Those  who are making a living in a field that is related to their passion (+), and those who are not (-).

The group of people which is passionate about their jobs, seem full of positive spirit, energy, and motivation. Those who are not, lack drive, energy and inspiration…

Why would somebody work in a field that does not fulfill him / her?

The answer to this questions is not straight forward… Frequently, this group of people has selected a career path in order to please third party constituencies (…like parents, friends and family). Sometimes, they have achieved superior financial rewards in the short term, but failed to achieve superior personal fulfillment in the medium and long term. Getting out of this rat-race is a difficult step that requires a lot of courage and will to change… For this reason, over time, it gets more and more difficult to drop out of the game.

The PASSIONBUSINESS Project

Our passion is to design meaningful and competitive business models. We share our passion with “apasionados” by coaching them through the process of turning their passion into meaningful customer value propositions and designing successful business models that assure that the apasionados can make a living out of their passion.
